Home use tests—real products, real homes, clean comparisons

A lab can’t tell you how a shampoo, snack or gadget performs on day five at home. Sentink Home Use Testing brings the whole HUT into one study: blind-coded products, a balanced rotation for every participant, a usage diary for each product period, and side-by-side results per product, without spreadsheets of who-gets-what.

Built for bilingual teams across the GCC and MENA—with native Arabic RTL, regional fielding, and Dubai-headquartered support.

  • 01Blind product codesParticipants see “318”, never the brand
  • 02Balanced rotationWilliams Latin square, random or fixed order
  • 03Sequential monadicOne product at a time, period by period
  • 04Usage diariesDaily check-ins or a log every time it’s used
  • 05Per-product resultsCompare products side by side, ready to export

What you get

  • Add the products under test with blind codes, so participants never see brand names
  • Sequential monadic designs: each participant tests one product at a time, in a set number of days per product
  • Balanced rotation with a Williams Latin square, so every product appears in every position and order effects even out
  • Or use a reproducible random order, a fixed order, or set a participant’s order by hand
  • Rotation is assigned automatically as people join and is locked once fieldwork starts, so the design can’t drift
  • Product-scoped tasks: the same questionnaire repeats for each product, labelled with that product’s code
  • Daily usage check-ins, or event logs every time the product is used
  • Gate tasks: for example, “confirm you received product 318” before the usage diary opens
  • Photos and videos of the product in use, from the participant’s home
  • Reminders when each product period starts and before tasks close
  • Track every participant’s current product, day and completion live
  • Per-product results and summaries to compare products on the same measures
  • Export the rotation (who tested what, in which order) with every answer and a product summary in CSV or Excel
  • Follow-up questions, AI summaries and the Research inbox work exactly as in online diaries

A fair test, designed for you

Add your products and pick the design. With a Williams Latin square, Sentink balances the order across participants so every product appears in every position and first-impression effects even out. Participants only see blind codes. Orders are assigned as people join and locked once fieldwork starts.

  • Williams Latin square, seeded random or fixed order
  • Manual changes for individual participants when you need them
  • Blind codes instead of brand names everywhere participants look

One product at a time, at home

Each participant tests their first product for the days you set, then moves to the next. Sentink opens the right questionnaire for the right product on the right day, in each person’s time zone, and can hold the diary until they confirm the product arrived.

  • Product periods with daily check-ins or a log for each use
  • Gated tasks such as a “product received” check
  • Photo and video answers from real homes

Compare products on the same measures

Results line up product by product, so you can see which formula, flavour or design wins and why. Export the full rotation with every answer for your own modelling, and use follow-ups and AI summaries to understand the reasons behind the scores.

  • Per-product results and summaries
  • Rotation, answers and product summary in CSV or Excel
  • Follow-up questions on any entry while the product is still in use

Who it is for

  • FMCG and consumer product teamsTest formulas, flavours, fragrances and packs in real homes before launch or reformulation.
  • Research agenciesRun HUTs for clients without spreadsheets of codes and orders, and hand over clean, balanced data.
  • Retail and private-label buyersCompare own-label products against the market leader in real use, on the same measures.

Frequently asked questions

What is a sequential monadic home use test?

Each participant tests several products one after another, using each one on its own for a set period and rating it before moving to the next. Sentink balances the order across participants so that order effects even out.

How is the product order balanced?

By default with a Williams Latin square: every product appears in every position, and each product follows every other product equally often. You can also choose a reproducible random order or a fixed order, and change an individual participant’s order by hand.

Do participants see product names?

No. Participants see only the blind codes you choose, such as 318 or 742. Your team sees both the code and the real product.

Which plans include home use testing?

Home use testing is included with the Pro and Corporate plans and with Enterprise and private instances, together with online diaries and research communities.
